The Essequibo River and its tributaries are home to true river monsters — powerful, elusive, and unforgettable. Anglers here can pursue Arapaima exceeding 400 lbs, Paraiba (Lau Lau) Catfish reaching up to 400 lbs, and massive Redtail and Jau Catfish well over 100 lbs. The river also holds Surubim and Porthole Shovel-Nose Catfish, alongside ferocious Vampire (Payara) Fish, Arowana, and both Yellow and Lake Peacock Bass. For added variety, species such as Pacu, Bicuda, and Stingrays complete the lineup. Each day brings a new challenge — from the explosive strikes of topwater Peacock Bass to the deep, thundering runs of giant catfish. Built from the surrounding jungle’s rich hardwoods — including Purpleheart and Greenheart — Piraiba Lodge combines craftsmanship, character, and comfort in equal measure. Each guest room features private showers, toilets, and wash basins, with fresh towels and linens provided daily. Laundry is done each day, and mosquito-netted double beds ensure a restful night’s sleep, while 110V outlets make charging gear simple and convenient. Meals are prepared fresh daily, showcasing traditional Guyanese and Amerindian cuisine — from hearty breakfasts to riverside packed lunches and full evening dinners. Guests enjoy a selection of soft drinks, juices, and energy beverages, with beer, rum, and other spirits available at an additional cost.
